How to Save an Instagram Reel to Your iPhone
Instagram has no save-to-camera-roll button for other people’s reels. The browser route works for public reels: copy the link, resolve it and save the MP4 through iOS.
Copy the reel link
- 1Open the reel in Instagram.
- 2Tap the paper-plane icon, then Copy link.
- 3On the web version, copy the address bar URL.
Paste it into DownloadTray
Open downloadtray.com in Safari. Paste the link and press Download. DownloadTray recognises instagram.com/reel/... and lists the video the post exposes.
Instagram rate-limits automated requests, so the first attempt can fail. Wait about a minute and retry; the error message tells you when that is the cause.
Save to Photos
Tap Save to device. If the share sheet appears, choose Save Video. If the file goes to Files, open Files → Downloads, tap the MP4, then Share → Save Video.
What is not supported
Private accounts, stories and login-only posts cannot be resolved. Carousel posts list their photos separately when Instagram exposes them.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to log in to Instagram?
No. DownloadTray only handles public reels and posts; it never asks for your Instagram session.
Why does the first attempt fail?
Instagram rate-limits automated requests. A retry after a minute usually succeeds.
Can I save a story?
No. Stories require a login session and are not supported.
