YouTube to MP3: What Actually Works

Converting YouTube to MP3 is the most searched audio request on the web, and the most misleading. This page explains what the tools actually do and where the limits are.

Why DownloadTray returns video

For YouTube, the resolver returns a video file. DownloadTray does not run an audio converter and does not re-encode streams, so it cannot hand you a true MP3 for a YouTube link.

TikTok and some Instagram posts expose a separate audio track; YouTube does not through this resolver.

If you need audio only

Download the video, then extract the audio in an editor (Audacity, QuickTime, CapCut). That gives you a file you control and avoids another conversion step on a random website.

Rights and platform rules

Downloading audio does not grant a licence. Music and spoken content belong to their rights holders, and YouTube’s terms restrict downloading outside the official offline feature.

Frequently asked questions

Does DownloadTray convert YouTube to MP3?

No. It saves the video file the resolver returns. Use an editor to extract audio if you need it.

Why do other sites offer it?

They run a converter on their servers. That changes the file and often breaks; it is not the original stream.

Is it legal?

It depends on the content and your jurisdiction. Downloading does not transfer rights; check the rules before republishing.
