YouTube Shorts to MP4: Format and Quality
A Short is already an MP4 on YouTube’s side. The download step does not convert anything; it saves the file the resolver can reach, and the vertical frame stays vertical.
Link in, MP4 out
Paste a youtube.com/shorts/… or youtu.be/… link into DownloadTray. The result card lists one MP4 option, and the preview frame follows the video’s real 9:16 ratio.
Why the resolution is fixed
The free resolver returns a single standard stream, usually 360p. There is no quality picker because there is only one file to offer, and DownloadTray does not upscale it.
When a Short does not download
Live, private, age-restricted and region-locked Shorts are refused with a reason. A rights restriction from the uploader has the same effect.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Short stay vertical?
Yes. The preview and the file keep the source 9:16 ratio.
Can I choose 1080p?
No. The resolver offers one standard stream.
Is it a conversion?
No. The file is saved as served; no re-encoding happens.
