YouTube Shorts Downloader: Save a Short as MP4
Shorts links look different from normal YouTube links, but they resolve the same way. Paste the link, pick the video file and save it. Vertical Shorts stay vertical.
Copy the Shorts link
- 1Open the Short in the YouTube app.
- 2Tap Share, then Copy link.
- 3On desktop, copy the address bar URL from youtube.com/shorts/...
Paste it into DownloadTray
Open downloadtray.com, paste the link and press Download. DownloadTray recognises youtube.com/shorts/... and youtu.be links, so you do not need to convert them.
The result card shows the title, channel and thumbnail, plus the MP4 file the resolver returns.
Save the file
Tap Save to device. On iPhone use the share sheet to save to Photos; on Android the file lands in Downloads and is indexed by the gallery.
The preview frame follows the video’s real aspect ratio, so a vertical Short is shown tall and a horizontal video is shown wide.
Quality and limits
The resolver returns one standard-quality stream, usually 360p. Private, age-restricted, live and region-locked Shorts are refused with a clear reason instead of a fake file.
Frequently asked questions
Do Shorts links work without converting them?
Yes. youtube.com/shorts/ID and youtu.be/ID both resolve the same way as a watch link.
Why is the download only 360p?
The resolver returns a single standard stream. DownloadTray does not upscale or re-encode, so you get exactly that file.
Can I download a live Short?
No. Live streams are not supported and are reported as such.
