How to Download a YouTube Video on Android
Android browsers save the file straight to storage, so the workflow is short. The only thing that varies is where your phone indexes the MP4 afterwards.
Copy the link
- 1Open the video in the YouTube app.
- 2Tap Share, then Copy link.
- 3For Shorts, the same Share → Copy link action works.
Paste and download
Open downloadtray.com in Chrome, Samsung Internet or Firefox. Paste the link, press Download and pick the MP4.
Keep the YouTube app closed while the browser resolves the link. The in-app browser blocks file downloads, so use a standalone browser.
Find the file
The file lands in Downloads. Google Photos and most gallery apps index that folder, sometimes only after a refresh.
If it does not show up, open Files → Downloads, tap the MP4 and share it to Photos or your gallery app.
Quality and limits
The resolver returns one standard stream, usually 360p. Private, age-restricted, live and region-locked videos are refused with a clear reason.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work without the YouTube app?
Yes. The app is only used to copy the link. The download itself happens in the browser.
Why only 360p?
The free resolver exposes a single standard stream. DownloadTray does not upscale or re-encode it.
Where is the file saved?
In Downloads. Gallery apps usually index it automatically; otherwise share it from Files.
