How DownloadTray Handles a Video Link
It helps to know what the tool can and cannot do before blaming it for a failure. Here is the path a link takes, in plain language.
1. The link is classified
DownloadTray reads the host, not the text. A tiktok.com link goes to the TikTok resolver, instagram.com to Instagram, and so on. Unknown hosts are rejected immediately.
2. A resolver asks the platform
The resolver is a third-party service that returns the media URLs the platform exposes. If the post is private, deleted or region-locked, it returns nothing and DownloadTray reports that reason.
This step is where most failures happen, and why the error message matters.
3. The file is streamed to you
When you press save, the file is streamed through DownloadTray to your browser. The app enforces a size limit and blocks private network addresses, but it does not keep a copy of your video.
What it does not do
It does not log you in to any platform, remove baked-in watermarks, upscale video, or convert containers. It saves what the platform serves.
