What Is a Watermark (and Why It Cannot Always Be Removed)
A watermark is a mark added to a video to show where it came from. There are two kinds, and only one of them can be absent from a download.
Overlay watermarks
Added by the platform when it prepares a share file. A higher-quality stream may not include it, so a download can look clean without anyone editing the video.
Baked-in watermarks
Rendered into the pixels by the creator’s editor or by the platform before upload. Removing it means cropping or painting over the frame, which changes the video.
What a downloader can do
Save the file the platform serves. It cannot tell whether a specific pixel is a logo, and it should not crop or blur content on your behalf.
The practical answer
If the logo is in the preview frame, it is baked in. Ask the creator for the master file if you need a clean version.
Frequently asked questions
Can DownloadTray remove watermarks?
No. It saves the served file and never edits the pixels.
Why do some tools claim to remove it?
They usually crop the frame or paint over it, which damages the video and can misrepresent the creator.
How do I know before saving?
Preview the result card. If the logo moves with the frame, it is part of the video.
